Can students choose their own major?
Yes. YKDE Scholarship students are free to choose their preferred major according to their interests, talents, and aspirations. However, if their academic average during the preparation period indicates that their selected major may not provide a strong likelihood of passing the National Selection Based on Test (SNBT), YKDE will provide guidance and recommend alternative majors that better match each student’s academic profile to increase their chances of acceptance.
Does this mean university enrollment is delayed?
Yes. Students will begin their university studies one year later, as they first undergo a one-year training and preparation program. This preparation period is designed to strengthen academic readiness, character development, and overall competitiveness — a strategic step backward in order to move several steps forward.
Can students pursue a Master’s degree (S2) immediately after completing their Bachelor’s degree (S1) before entering FTTI? Can FTTI be completed while studying for a Master’s degree?
Yes, under specific conditions. Students must enroll in an acceleration program where they complete their Bachelor’s and immediately continue to a Master’s degree at the same university. The total duration of study (Bachelor’s + Master’s) must not exceed five years.
Are the university majors theological (Bible school)?
No. The majors offered are not theological or Bible school programs. Students enroll in standard academic disciplines available at accredited universities.
Can students choose a university close to their hometown?

What about Medicine, which requires approximately six years of study?

Students from Eastern Indonesia who are interested in pursuing Medicine are encouraged to apply to the Faculty of Medicine (FK) at Universitas Ciputra through the scholarship pathway.

On average, 80% of YKDE Scholarship students have been accepted into public universities over the past four years.
Can students enroll in government service colleges (e.g., STAN)?
Unfortunately, this is not permitted. Government service colleges require a mandatory service bond after graduation, which would prevent graduates from completing the Bible Training component in the final two years of the scholarship program.
Are students allowed to participate in campus organizations during their studies?
Yes, provided they receive prior approval from YKDE or their assigned mentor at the Brother–Sister House.
Are students allowed to participate in demonstrations or political protests?
No. YKDE Scholarship students are not permitted to participate in demonstrations or political protest activities.

If a student receives a government scholarship such as Bidikmisi or KIP, what does the YKDE Scholarship cover?
Students are strongly encouraged to apply for and obtain government scholarships such as Bidikmisi or KIP. If a student receives one of these scholarships, YKDE will cover expenses that are not funded by Bidikmisi or KIP, as well as obligations under the YKDE Scholarship agreement. These may include accommodation costs and other university-related expenses not covered by the government scholarship.
If a YKDE Scholarship student becomes ill, does YKDE cover medical expenses?
No. Medical treatment and healthcare expenses remain the full responsibility of the student’s parents or family.
What does the scholarship funding include?
Phase One – Preparation Period (accommodation, meals, transportation related to program activities, academic tutoring (bimbingan belajar), character development training in Cikole, other preparation-related program costs).
Phase Two – University Period (Official tuition fees charged by the university, accommodation, internet allowance, book allowance, other approved academic-related expenses).
Why are students required to attend Gereja Sidang Jemaat Kristus (GSJK)? Can they attend another church?
During the scholarship commitment period, students are required to attend Gereja Sidang Jemaat Kristus (GSJK) for structured spiritual formation and mentoring. GSJK has been designated as the partner church to provide consistent spiritual guidance throughout the scholarship period. Students are expected to participate in this spiritual development program to ensure unity in teaching and to avoid differences arising from various denominational backgrounds.
If I am accepted into the YKDE Scholarship but do not pass the National Selection Based on Test (SNBT), what happens next? Do I have to return to my hometown?
Students may choose to return to their hometown or relocate to another city based on agreement with their family. However, they must first submit a formal letter of resignation from the scholarship program. Only after approval may they return home or relocate as agreed with their family.
Another suggestion which is our main solution:
As an alternative solution, students are encouraged to consult with the YKDE Scholarship team regarding other pathways, such as applying through the independent admission track or enrolling in a private university that partners with YKDE, subject to applicable terms and parental/guardian approval. In this case: The family must prepare the Initial Tuition Fee (UKA), and YKDE will cover the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) up to a maximum of IDR 4,000,000 per semester.
Are students allowed to take holidays or return home during the five-year scholarship program?
During the one-year preparation period, students may request leave to return home during official holiday periods, subject to approval and situational considerations.

Approval is not automatic and may be granted under specific conditions (the maximum duration for returning home is 21 days and travel expenses are the responsibility of the parents or family.
If I do not pass the YKDE Scholarship selection, can I still participate in the program through self-funding?
Yes. Applicants may participate on a self-funded basis, provided they complete the full selection and interview process and agree to comply with all applicable program regulations.
What happens if a student violates program regulations (e.g., engaging in dating relationships)?
Students who violate the terms outlined in the scholarship agreement will receive sanctions in accordance with the signed contract, which may include termination of the scholarship agreement.
Why are students not permitted to engage in dating relationships during the scholarship program?
YKDE believes that romantic relationships may potentially distract students from their academic focus and personal development. Such relationships may also lead to situations that carry social, emotional, or moral risks.
For these reasons, students are encouraged to prioritize their academic, character, and spiritual growth during the scholarship period.
If a student encounters serious personal difficulties, whom should they contact?
Students may contact The YKDE Scholarship Team, The YKDE Secretariat and The Chairperson of the YKDE Executive Board
